INSTRUCTIONS FOR PROVIDING TRANSLATIONS
What are concepts and prefLabels?
A concept refers to any language item used in the Sensing Clues platform (Cluey Data Collector, Focus 360, Analytical Toolbox). Any value that appears in a pick list can be translated. By default, all concepts are displayed in English. When translations are available, the interface will show the language of your choice.
Each concept has a prefLabel: the preferred text shown in the interface. Concepts may also have altLabels (alternative names), which help the system recognise synonyms and local terms used for the same concept.
Do I need to translate all concepts?
No. You only need to translate the concepts that are relevant to you. If a concept does not apply to your region or context, feel free to skip it. For example, if you work in Colombia, there's no need to translate species like Elephant, as they do not occur in your project area.
How do I add a new language?
Get the latest translation files: Before you begin, contact translations@sensingclues.org or reach out to any member of our team to ensure you are working with the most recent version.
Add your translations: Enter your translations in the table and save your work regularly to avoid data loss due to internet issues or other interruptions.
Notify the team: Let us know via translations@sensingclues.org or reach out to any member of our team once you have completed your entries.
Review and release: We will first process and test your translations in our test environment. We may reach out with questions or suggestions if needed. Once approved, the updates will be released to our production environment, making them available for use. We aim to publish new translations at least once per month, typically on Wednesday evenings (CET).
What if I miss a concept?
No problem — any untranslated concept will simply appear in the default language (English). You can always add additional translations later by following the steps above.
