CLUEY 4.0 IS LIVE!
Stronger Standards. Greater Impact.
This release is an important step forward in making field data collection more standardised, higher in quality, and easier to adapt to local needs – and it wouldn’t have been possible without our community.
Cluey 4.0 was shaped by the voices of our field partners, who shared honest feedback, real-world challenges, and ideas that helped us reimagine what effective, user-friendly data collection should look like. Our goal was clear: improve the quality and standardisation of data collected in the field – lining it up for greater impact.
Cluey 4.0 builds on emerging international data standards, while still giving you the flexibility to adapt forms to your own context. You can select or deselect elements of the standard forms provided. To raise data quality even further, you can now include your own pick lists.
Every improvement is the result of collaboration, and we’re deeply grateful to everyone who contributed – from field teams to volunteers to our own crew. Your knowledge made this version possible.
What’s new in Cluey 4.0
Customisable forms – build forms that match your needs.
Custom pick lists – e.g. named rhinos, camera traps, chilli fences, beehives, households.
Improved performance – carry over 1,000 observations without slowing down your phone.
Field names for each concept – making it easier to analyse data with third-party software.
Human-wildlife conflict updates – new field “Crop damage” (damage type, crop species, weight, growth stage) and a multi-select option for “Type of HWC” (e.g. record both “Attacked people” and “Damaged crops” in one observation).
Point of interest updates – the old “Technical” field is replaced with more specific options like “Water”, “Fire”, “Camera trap”, “Barrier”, and “Fence”, with space to add more detail.

Ready to try it out?
Head to the Google Play Store to install Cluey if you’re new.
Or update to the latest version if you already have it.
After updating, refresh your Group List and wait until the spinning wheel disappears (this may take a moment).
