“Nature FIRST shows how digital intelligence can transform biodiversity protection from reactive monitoring to proactive prevention.”
Nature FIRST, Europe - Recognised by the European Commission for advancing digital conservation
Biodiversity loss is accelerating — but so is the ability to respond. With Nature FIRST, Sensing Clues and its partners set out to change how conservation works: moving from delayed reaction to early, informed action. By combining digital intelligence, real-time monitoring and environmental forensics, the project created tools that help those on the ground anticipate risks before they escalate.
These solutions were tested and applied across four protected areas: Stara Planina Mountain in Bulgaria, Ancares-Courel in Spain, the Danube Delta in Romania, and the Maramureș transboundary region spanning Romania and Ukraine — demonstrating their value in diverse ecological and operational contexts.
Now successfully completed, Nature FIRST leaves behind more than results. It delivers a working, scalable approach to turning environmental data into decisions — already supporting conservation efforts across Europe. This impact is now recognised by the European Commission, which highlights Nature FIRST as a powerful example of how technology can help prevent biodiversity loss.
